China First Test Launch of Mobile ICBM to Become Third Nuclear PowerPosted: March 17, 2015
The website of Russian Military Industry Complex said on March 16 that China successfully test launched its new mobile ICBM DF-31B on September 25, 2014.
The ICBM has a range of 11,200 km able to cover the whole United States. It is launched from a mobile platform and takes only 5 minutes to enter its ballistic trajectory, difficult for US spy satellites to detect and trace in time. In addition as the trajectory is snake shaped, it is very difficult to intercept.
According to the website’s estimate, China has 130 to 140 mobile ICBMs with 200 to 240 nuclear warheads sufficient to constitute a second strike force.
It speculates that China is developing the three-in-one second strike nuclear force with mobile ICBMs, strategic nuclear submarines and strategic nuclear bombers. It has the former two and is developing the third.
