China Upgrades Old Destroyer to Enhance Their Capabilities 16 TimesPosted: May 6, 2016
While building lots of new warships, China is upgrading its old warships by replacing new powerful weapons and equipment for old ones. The above are photos on the upgrading of the Shenzhen, an old Type 051B destroyer and the Guangzhou, an old Type 052B destroyer. The photos are provided by mil.huanqiu.com in its reports today.
Other two Type 052B destroyers, the Hangzhou and the Fuzhou, are also being upgraded.
The website says that the ships’ old missile launchers on its deck will be replaced with 32-tube vertical launch system (VLS) for the Shenzhen and 32-48-tube VSL for the other three destroyers. HQ-16 air defense missiles 4 times powerful and 16 times longer-range will replace the old ones. It is believed that YJ-12A anti-ship cruise missiles will replace the old ones on those warships. In addition, the four destroyers will all have China’s type 1130 close-in weapon system for missile defense.
