China’s official military forum says in its report today that according to foreign media, 4 main-force warships of China’s South Sea Fleet are sailing around the Philippines after the Fleet’s major drill in western Pacific. The Chinese warships are: China’s advanced Aegis missile destroyers Type 052D the Hefei and Type 052C the Lanzhou, Type 054A frigate the Sanya, and Type 903A comprehensive replenishment warship the Honghu.

It is believed that one US and one Japanese destroyer that have been watching Chinese drill will track the Chinese warships.

We do not know the purpose of the Chinese warships in sailing around the Philippines. Is that aimed at showing muscles to the Philippines to tell the Philippines that it will be the major battlefield if a war breaks out between China and the US? Philippine President Aquino wants a war as he said recently that the US shall fight China if China conducts land reclamation at Scarborough Shoal. Does he want the Philippines to be the major battlefield of the war he wants?

The remotest area of the Philippines is only 1,200 km away from China’s airport at Yongshu (Fiery Cross) Reef; therefore the Philippines is entirely within the range of China’s J-20 stealth fighter jet (3,400 km) and H-6K bomber (6,000 km). Philippine airfields will all be destroyed by Chinese missiles and H-6K bombers in the war while US F-22 deployed in Japan cannot obtain air supremacy in the Philippines due to its insufficient range. That will leave the Philippines entirely at the mercy of Chinese fleet and air force.

I hope such tragedy will not emerge as no one but Aquino wants the war, but Aquino will soon retire.

And where was the Stennis and her mini battlegroup? She was either hiding from the Chinese battlegroup or she did not have fuel and provision to even leave port. I bet the new Duterte administration will object to give credit line for US navy, considering their terrible records of paying debts.

Probably submarines and variable depth sonar and towed array sonar as well if the Sanya is so equipped.

These ships most likely pass through Bashi Channel/Luzon Strait where US SOSUS is there listening and US subs and even Japanese Soryu subs lurking nearby, so the Chinese need to protect their surface ships with subs and subs protect them as well.

On a related note, Obama visit to Vietnam have a hidden agenda to get Vietnamese cooperation to monitor Chinese subs that may sail through the South China Sea. This of course serve Vietnam interest as well, so expect lots of subs listening devices planted all over Vietnam coastline and Spratlys. US afraid Chinese subs could be in firing range of Continental US once it get to Atlantic Ocean/Caribbean Sea via SCS and Indian Ocean. That is why US frantically seek Indian cooperation as well to track Chinese subs, esp Type 94 Jin sub with JL2 missiles.

Vietnam long coastline and occupation of the numerous islands in the Spratlys facing the SCS are idea places for US to plant listening devices to track Chinese subs. So Obama hidden agenda is to get Vietnamese cooperation to help prevent Chinese subs getting to firing range of CONUS.

US strategy is basically the Game of GO, keep the playing field in SCS, ECS, to contain Chinese navy and the Chinese desperately want to change the playground to the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.
