China Steps Up Development of HGV, MIRV in Response of THAAD

An article titled “Why the U.S.-South Korea Missile Shield Could Provoke China to Develop Advanced Weaponry” on The World Post August 16 speculates that in response of South Korea’s deployment of THAAD, China will step up its development and Deployment of hypersonic glide vehicles and missiles with MIRV difficult for THAAD to discover, track and intercept.

The article believes China cannot pressure North Korea for fear of causing instability in North Korea nor impose economic sanction on South Korea that may harm not only South Korea but China itself.

China regards the deployment of THAAD as a strategic action and will respond strategically while the development and deployment of HGV and MIRV will be precisely strategic response.

  1. Steve says:

THAAD OR NO THAAD, will not make any difference to China’s intention to step up development of hypersonic glide vehicles and missiles with MIRV to avoid being intercepted. The only added strategy will be the deployment of such HGV to counter Sth Korea’s deployment of THAAD especially in the ECS which will be a concern should war break out in that region.
