Meet Cheng Hong, the English literature professor, translator … and wife of China’s Premier Li Keqiang

The low-profile, scholarly Cheng is travelling with the premier on his first official visit to Canada

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang began his first official visit to Canada on Wednesday, and is travelling with his wife Cheng Hong.
While President Xi Jinping’s wife Peng Liyuan is a military singer known for her fashion, Cheng is a low-profile scholar with a doctorate in literature and is a professor at Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing.
Family
Cheng was born in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in 1957. Cheng Jinrui, Cheng’s father, rose to be a senior official in the Communist Youth League.
Cheng was accepted into the PLA University of Foreign Languages in 1977, the first year the national entrance examinations were reinstated.
She met Li Keqiang while doing an advanced degree at Peking University. They married in 1983 and have one daughter.
Profession
Cheng is an English professor specialising in naturalism in American Literature. She has translated many books in the field, including Wake-Robin, The Singing Wilderness, and The Outermost House.
In the abstract of Cheng’s book Tranquility Is Beyond Price, published in Shanghai in 2009, Cheng wrote that she developed her interest in American and British writing on nature and the environment when she was a visiting scholar at Brown University in the United States.
The university website lists Cheng as one of its “renowned scholars” and says she is a member of the institute’s academic committee.
Style
Cheng is often described as a low-profile person and reportedly has no business interests.
One professor at Capital University of Economics and Business in Beijing told the South China Morning Post in 2012 that university officials put Cheng forward to become a dean at the college, but she refused.
“Cheng is a dedicated scholar who prefers to concentrate on her work. She treats others with sincerity and courtesy,” the professor, who also teaches English literature in the department, said.

At least she is not another damn lawyer. Even George Bush was not proficient in English while in office. His successor Obama is not even proficient in reading English that he reads scripted propaganda more than actual news. This is why China is ahead of America today.

As the man who runs the economy in China Premier Li Keqiang is often pronounced as Li “Kerching” in the West. I wonder if that is because were ever he goes he brings with him loads of money in trade deals and foreign leaders and businesses goes “Kerching” with money signs in their eyes.

On the contrary, only when he returns to China from successful business trips, he brings Kerching $$$ in his eyes back to China. For instance, with any successful negotiations on those high speed railways, Mr. Li has Kerching in his eyes when he returns to China.

True, Japan can only look jealously and throwing tantrum when the ‘Kerching’ they expected so much went pass by to China when Indonesia decided to award China with high-speed train contract instead of to Japan.

Japan are supposed to be world renown for their high speed rail, but China has proven their Choo Choo train are the best engineered for speed and durability. Even Japan’s Stealth Submarines abandoned by Australia. This Japanese Abe and gang are trouble makers, they will throw mud to smear China because they have US on their side, but they are easily intimidated by China’s unmatchable economic rise, CCP governance and powerful military.

Japan’s Abe should know that Indonesia under Jokowi regime is not pro-America anymore. His constant insistence that Jokowi abandon his China-friendly policy to join the doomed American SCS conflict is really irritating the Indonesian. After all, Japan promised $50 billion on infrastructure investment on Jokowi’s inauguration. Two years on, not a single cent is invested. Indonesian find Japan is increasingly untrustworthy.

History has proven that unrepentant hegemonic barbarism such as the brotherhood of US and Japan are untrustworthy. These are barbaric savages hiding under the flags of democracy whilst spreading lies and deceit. Only China under intense pressure in past decades, demonstrated it’s wisdom and perseverance to excel beyond expectations and gained admiration of the UN and All nations. The CCP governance is beyond doubt, the world’s most stable government in the past three decades.

During the 1990’s, Asiaweek magazine wrote that most executives and owners of multinational companies which were currently invested or planning to invest in China were seen with their mouths wide open and saliva dripping while computating their profits.
I have met mainlanders in China who earn tens and hundreds of thousand of RMB per month. Example, one sells only eye mask and earn a minimum of ¥30T/month. A 30-year old lady earns ¥500T/month selling beauty products online with 90% of sales coming from beauty face mask.
In China, the government really help the people earn money. Just last month, I was speaking to more than 20 business people and everyone say the government of Guangdong has for the last four years never collected any business fees and taxes from small and medium businesses. The government don’t even let them pay income taxes. The government have a basis for this but I won’t discuss them. The reason is because the government knows business is slowing. Really, where in the world can you do that but only in China.

In Western countries, they help people to earn money too, but on the base of their social status. For rich and powerful the governments make sure they earn billions with contracts and other privileges. For the poor, the government will make sure they earn pennies. This way the rich will stay rich and the poor will stay poor. And the balance between the rich and the poor will remain constant. This is why you need lawyers and lobbyists in the West much more than engineers, to plead money from government and to make the case of the importance of exploiting the people, such as mandate insurances (health insurance, life insurance, income insurance, funeral insurance etc). Of course, China, a country that can lift 700 million people from poverty, is a threat. For one they oppress their own people out of poverty Then they raise the living and education standard so that Western companies can no longer exploit poor and uneducated Chinese peasants with their ‘lucrative’ low wages they enjoyed in the 80s. China scared more about the breakdown of domestic social order that Western pressure. It is a very serious threat to the (Western) world order indeed.

The Govt. should collect at least 50% reduction of income tax. 50% is a huge reduction or discount by any Govt., but by not charging any income tax at all on profitable businesses, I believe it’s irresponsible unless the earnings are below a threshold, no tax are payable.
