Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences have jointly successfully developed Dalian Coherent Light Source, the world strongest extreme ultraviolet laser. They began installation of the device on October 22, 2014 and completed it on September 24, 2016.

At 2250 hours, September 24, a high quality electron beam with 300 megavolt energy finally went through all the components of the free electron laser amplifier in correct order to make the 18-meter long oscillator array emit its first beam of extreme ultraviolet laser. One pulse of the laser can emit 10 trillion of photons with adjustable wavelength ranging from 50nm to 150nm. The light emitted is fully coherent. This laser has extremely wide-range application in chemistry, physics, biology, energy, materials, environment, etc.
