China’s Super Sea-Skimming Drone Makes Air Strike of China Impossible

China’s super low sea-skimming drone characterized by large load, great penetration and strike capabilities, stealth and survivability.

Popular Mechanics carries Kyle Mizokami’s article “China Is Building a Sea-Skimming Anti-Ship Drone” on May 4, describing China’s new sea-skimming anti-ship drone able to fly just 18 inches off the water using ground effect technology.

Due to its low altitude, the drone gives an enemy ship only 59 seconds to respond. Its 2000-pound warhead may kill an aircraft carrier. However, according to the author, US aircraft carriers are safe as their E-2D Hawkeye AEW&C aircrafts flying at 30,000 feet can theoretically detect the drone at 215 miles so as to enable the carrier to have 20 minutes to shoot down the drone.

If US carrier relies on AEW&C for its safety, it cannot go near China as its AEW&C will be shot down by China’s J-20s that dominate the airspace near China.

China’s anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles have already made it very risky for US aircraft carriers to sail near China. Now, there will be the drones to kill US carriers.

However, US military experts have already made clear that aircraft carriers are useless in attacking the homeland of great powers such as Russia and China as they have quite a few means of defense.

  1. The new sea skimming drone might have Wang Zhengou turbo-scram jet engine,Shou-En Zhu radar absorbing grapheme and China shkyal torprdoes.

  2. Fre Okin says:

When ready, China should demo this sea skimming drone near USN CSG like the upcoming FON in the SCS and ECS. This will show US China ‘s style FON and if US AWEC’s shows up, it will give China a chance to learn how to attack them in times of war. This drone is a particularly useful A2AD tool to keep US ships away from Diaoyu/Senkaku, Hainan and Spratlys. Range probably 500 NM based on maximum endurance of 1.5 hours and missiles range.

“Although no details on the speed or range have been provided, the brochure indicated that the new weapon could be used to aim a large surface target at sea, potentially through long-range, high-speed torpedo attacks.”
