PLA Begins Training for China’s Electromagnetic Catapult, Rail Gun

Global Times’ report “Naval University of Engineering’s establishment of an ‘electromagnetic launch engineering discipline’ gives rise to speculation: Is China making preparations for installation of such catapults on its aircraft carrier?” yesterday has given rise to the speculation that Chinese technology for electromagnetic catapult and rail gun is mature and there are needs to train personnel for operation and maintenance and junior commander of such weapons.

According to Real Admiral Ma Weiming who has been in charge of China’s development of electromagnetic catapult, there are no problems in China’s electromagnetic catapult technology and the technology rivals America’s. However, there has so far been no information when such a catapult will be installed on a Chinese aircraft carrier.

The US carriers are nuclear powered. This means that they have plenty of electrical juice to power their electromagnetic cats. With no nuclear powered ships where will the PLAN find the power for their catapults?

The answer is very simple and it’s right under your nose.

Q: With no nuclear powered ships where will the PLAN find the power for their catapults.?

Answer: At each port of call, the Chinese sailors will buy a couple of AA and AAA batteries and feed it to their EMC for electrical juice. Chinese systems are the most advanced.

Good question. China has to develop nuclear powered carrier before it can use the catapult.

However, rail gun can be used with the powerful capacitor China has already developed.

The question should be, with nuclear-powered ship, why does the American fails to develop their electromagnetic catapults? Is there any research saying that electromagnetic catapult must be nuclear powered? Electrical power depends on the conductivity, not the electrical source. A high-powered battery is sufficient to supply the charge. Do you even notice that there are no nuclear reactor near EMAL testing site, both in China and in America? Whoever said that nuclear reactor could generate more energy than other reactors? It only needs to be fueled less since nuclear fuel last longer, that’s all. This is after all real science, not Back To The Future’s time machine.
