According to CCTV, recently a photo and footage of the flying of a formation of 5 J-20s has emerged on the internet.

At a question about J-20, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Ren Guoqiang gives no information about it at the Ministry’s routine press conference on May 25.

He only said that J-20 is China’s homegrown new generation of stealth fighter jet developed to meet the needs of future warfare. Its development and tests have been conducted according to the plan. The warplane will greatly enhance the comprehensive combat capability of Chinese air force and help it to better shoulder the sacred mission of safeguarding national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

There is the speculation that the formation is a part of the preparation for a military parade to mark the 90th anniversary of the establishment of PLA on August 1. The Chinese Ministry of Defense has given the response that the anniversary is worth celebrating but revealed no details of the celebration.

There is also the speculation the formation flight proves that J-20 has already obtained initial operating capability.

However, Chinese military experts have given the comments that the initial operating capability is a vague American concept. For Chinese air force, the formation shows that initial training has been completed for J-20. The pilots now have profound confidence in and understanding of J-20 and are able to deepen their training.

Moreover, the formation of five proves that mass production of J-20 has already begun. A photo of J-20 with a mystic red number “15” was posted in June this year. There has been speculation that “15” means the fighter jet is the 15th J-20 produced by China.

Unlike the F-35, there’s no aerial tanker behind. And with presence of domestic trees in the picture, it proves that the J-20s were flying inland, confidently impervious to any radars. While the F-35 always features the undisclosed sea, obviously far away from any radars, otherwise the radar would see jumbo jets flying in formation, followed by aerial tankers. It doesn’t matter what tirades the Western media would like to raving and ranting. The Chinese is confident enough. That’s all that matters.
