Venezuelan Air Defence’s Chinese-made Radar Detects US F-22 Stealth Jet

Our Bureau 09:16 AM, May 13, 2020 10442

A Chinese-made type JY-27 radar deployed by Venezuelan Air Defense detected a United States F22 stealth aircraft as it approached the country’s airspace and sent a warning to the American fighter jet on Tuesday.

According to Avia Pro website, following the incident the Venezuelan army issued a warning to the US Air Force on May 12 that it was ready to fire without warning at any American aircraft if it tried to violate the country’s airspace.

The F-22 had attempted to violate the country’s borders in a “provocative manner,” information released by the site said quoting unnamed military sources.

The website said that the radar that detected the top-of-the-line American fighter is a Chinese-made radar type JY-27.

The incident follows the May 6 failed invasion attempt when mercenaries hired by a US security contractor were intercepted before they could carry out a mission to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. Two US citizens, part of the invading party, have been arrested.

The Chinese made type JY-27 ‘Wide Mat’ long-range early warning radar is claimed to detect stealth aircraft up to 500 km radius. In February 2016, the radar tracked an F-22 which was on its way to South Korea from Japan, Chinese media has claimed. However other reports say the tracking may have been facilitated by external fuel tanks on the F-22 needed to undertake the long trip.

China had revealed the radar at the 2016 Zhuhai air show. Called the JY-27A 3-D, it is a Very High Frequency (VHF) active phased array radar. VHF radars, with their longer wavelengths are capable of detecting stealth aircraft.

The radar is said to have been sold to several countries including Venezuela and Pakistan. If the Venezuelan detection of the F-22 is proven, then it is bad news for the US military which has developed the F-22 and F-35 on the assumption that enemy radars will not be able to detect these aircraft until it is too late to avoid an attack.

The radar is mounted on a mobile platform which enables it to move away after detecting the enemy aircraft, thus avoiding counter-measures.

Editorial comment: Venezuela had ordered up to 9 JYL-1 long range 3D air surveillance radars from China starting 2006. However, there is no information of it having acquired the more modern JY-27 3D radar. Nevertheless, China is known to deploy its cutting edge defence equipment for tests with friendly countries.

The theory of the placement of the JY-27 radar with friendly countries for testing gains currency following the detection of one such radar in a Pakistani air base in August 2019. Pakistan has not announced the purchase; nor did China reveal the sale without identifying the customer, as it normally does.

China had cliamed a major breakthrough in radar technology with the development of JY-27 very high frequency (VHF) radar specifically marking out the F-22 and F-35 fighter jets as within its gaze. It may want to test the radar extensively in regions where there is considerable movement of US aircraft.

America does not pocess stealth aircraft capabilities any more now that they can be detected even by weaker impoverish nations using Chinese radars.
Its no wonder they are re investing on their aging F15 and pull back deploymeny of F35. Countries around the world should think again buying expensive piece of American junks pretending to be radar evasive stealth fighters.

Would you believe the Aussie govt. Committed to spend 17 billion US$$ for 72 f35s to be delivered by 2035..????? This is not rocket science that will leave Aussie national defence defenceless. This is a dumb dud deal signed in 2018. By 2035, China would have commissioned its 6th gen stealth fighter, probably including Russia, US, France/Germany, UK & Japan. Recently, the f35s relegated to Mrs. Spotter n Mr. Sniper due to lack of fire power, needs protection from f15s. This dumb dud deal is the deal of the century.

Well, you better believe all of it. The Aussie committed to spend 17 billion US$ for 72 of F-35s. And they signed it in 2018 even after many pulled out from the project to show ‘solidarity’ to the American. Here is another of the idiocies of the Aussie. Their Home minister, yes minister for home – domestic affair, Peter Dutton made a unwarranted international comment about China and COVID19, parroting America without prove, and the Aussie decided to support such childish and irresponsible comment officially to cause full blown spat with China. And they are very proud to have endorsement from Mike Pompeo. In the meantime they got spooked with unrelated trade disputes with China, quoting that it should not be connected. Well, it is not connected. Unlike the childish Aussie, the Chinese acted responsibly. The childish spats are the childish spats, while the trade disputes are the trade disputes. The two are different matters, not connected. But as always those who commit offense would feel insecure for the repercussions. The Aussie feels that they are being spanked by China for being naughty. And they are actually actually flashing their childishness in their Western-controled media in Indonesia, perhaps trying to incite solidarity as fellow ‘anti-Chinese’ country. Well, whatever their expectations, they do not get it. Here in Indonesia we are laughing at Aussie’s jitteries being spanked by China. We would wish that China would really spank the Aussie, hard, so they would grow up a bit. It would serve them right.

If this story about detection of an F-22 by a Chinese manufactured radar is true then surely the story about the detection of a J-20 over Tibet by an Indian Air Force fighter is true.

Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

What does the story about Chinese radar can detect F-22 have anything to do with Indian airforce being able to detect anything at all, let alone J-20? Where is the scientific aspect on such petty jealousy remarks? If you can do it then I can do it too? What a brainless and uneducated remark. India cannot even afford to buy a decent radar to track commercial aircraft in their international airport, how could they afford to put a radar on the mountain? Are they imagining to have the fakirs, and the brahmins and other kind of meditating mad people to track the stealth aircrafts with their ‘premonitions’. Yeah, that will go well with international airport regulations.

A few days ago when India detected Chinese helicopters along the border during the fist fight, the Indian sent a SU 30MKI to intercept the Chinese helicopters. What is so funny was that Chinese J-20 were lurking around there and the SU30MKI just couldn’t detected it.

This CDC mutant name changing appendage just had another indiot moment. Actually, India detected was a group of geese flying in a J-20 formation trained by an ordinary farmer for his daughter’s wedding. You stupid indiots can check the video on Chinese Youku. Just type “stupid indiot tracked super geese in J-20 formation by Chinese farmer for daughter’s wedding”.

The issue of detecting stealth jet should be given more thought. It’s plain commonsense in noncombat flights stealth fighters will fly with radar reflectors. This is to hide the stealth capabilities of the stealth jet. India will be in for a big surprise in a combat situation.
The following article gives an analysis of this issue:
        https://www.businessinsider.my/chinas-j-20-stealth-jet-spotted-by-india-air-force-su-30mki-2018-5?amp&r=US&IR=T

The last two paragraphs of this article rebuts your insinuation:

“Also, it is possible that the Chinese are flying the J-20 with radar reflectors attached to enlarge and conceal its true radar cross section during peacetime operations – just as the USAF routinely does with the F-22 and F-35,” said Bronk.

For safety and training purposes, stealth aircraft often fly with markers that destroy their stealth during peacetime maneuvers.

If this is the case with the J-20s, then India may be in for an unpleasant surprise next time it tries to track the supposedly stealth jets.”

Clear definition that the 2 fs – 35s22s are outdated junkies. Easily detected and shot down over the ECS & SCS. Certainly, China has more advanced radar than the JY-27 not exported.
