China’s official military forum mil.huanqiu.com says in its report today that China’s fourth 052D destroyer was commissioned on July 12. The report, in addition, has discloses that one more 052D was launched in July while Dalian Shipyard launched another on August 3. In all four 052Ds have been commissioned and three have been launched. In addition, two more are being built at Shanghai Shipyard. Those are the nine 052Ds we know for sure.

Obviously, China has stepped up construction of its newest and most advanced Type 052D Aegis destroyers.

Taiwan’s Want Daily speculates that the total number of 052Ds including those being built is 12, of which 4 will be deployed in China’s aircraft carrier battle group.

    The U.S. has 60 plus destroyers. China will need 120 pus aegis-type destroyers to threaten that bullying U.S.. Hope Beijing has contracted more shipyards to churn out such warships without delay. If war is averted this year, rest assure there will be one by 2030. Beijing must optimize its time, if it has any, to strengthen its defences.
